HP OfficeJet 5258 All-in-One Printer
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

My HP OfficeJet 5258 printer ejects a blank envelope. I have to reinsert the envelope, close the tray door and tap OK and it then prints the envelope

Thank you for posting on the HP Support Community.

Don't worry as I'll be glad to help,

Make sure you have selected the Media (kind of paper), source (tray), and paper size in your printer settings.

  • Control Panel > icon view > Devices and Printers > Right-Click on your printer > Printing Preferences >
  • Tab Printing Shortcuts > Click / Highlight preferred shortcut > Click Apply > Click OK to exit

And, also refer to the article: Printing Envelopes (Windows) By the end of the article you will be able to isolate the issue.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.

Thank you - Thank You for your reply. I have been struggling with this for over a month, Googled solutions, asked computer gurus who led me through various steps with no success, updated drivers, etc. One proposed solution was to uninstall my printer driver and re-install which I was reluctant to do because when I purchased my printer in 2019 I was unable to install the printer driver. HP support took remote control of my computer and tried several times over almost two hours to install the driver with no success. The support agent finally gave up stating he had tried everything he knew. The following day I went through his steps about six times and the driver was finally installed.

I followed your instructions, right-clicked on the printer icon, and selected "factory default"  Lo and behold, the envelope printed perfectly and didn't first eject a blank envelope. Again, Thank You - Thank You
