Printer says "Add Paper"

Whether I try to print or copy, my printer just says "add paper". I have checked everything and cleaned the rollers per instructions but the printer will still not pick up the paper from the tray or feed through the single page feeder.

I need you to clarify please: Does the printer try to pick paper and fail or does it immediately prompt to load paper when you click print?

1. If it tries to pick and fails, the media you are using might have too smooth a surface..

2. If you are immediately prompted for paper, then likely your application is trying to print on a size or paper type that you do not have loaded in the printer. 

If you try to print any reports from the control panel of the printer does that work? If yes, then #2 above is even more likely.

Has the printer worked in the past and this is a new problem or has the printer never worked?

Thanks. I'll try some the suggestions but this is the same paper we have been using for months with no problems.  The printer has worked flawlessly for over 3 years.

My printer has worked fine for over 1 year.  Now it keeps saying LOAD TRAY 2.  It has plenty of paper in Tray 2.  It won't print.

My printer is an HP Envy 7645. Message says "Out of paper" and will not print. There is a lot of paper in it. Same paper we've always used

The printer tries to pick up the paper to print but fails and the "Out of paper" message pops up. It's a new problem. Printer has always worked fine before.
