HP Deskjet Pro 7740
Android 9.0 Pie

My HP Officejet Pro 7740 won't print 6x4" photos on HP photo paper. The printer is configured for it print dialog has all the right options selected. The printer makes operational sounds, then falsely claims a paper jam. Is there a solution to this?

@BlackSalmon

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Try printing it through a Computer and let us know if the same thing happens. Uninstall and reinstall the HP Smart App from the phone and try again.

Are you able to copy from the Printer?

Let me know if this helps.

Thanks!

Have a great day!

Thanks for your response. I do not print from my computer due to an incompatible OS. However, the printer copies and prints from my Android phone to traditional size (8.5 x 11) paper and even CD labels just fine. It's only having difficulty with this particular size paper (CR759A) (4" x 6") (200 g/m²) (Glossy).

Did you try uninstalling and reinstalling the HP Smart App from the phone?

Yes. The app is recognizing the size of the paper loaded onto the tray and shows the preview accordingly. When it goes to print there are the normal mechanical sounds for a while (longer than usual) and then it proclaims a "paper jam," but there is no paper jamed anywhere. My best guess is that the paper doesn't seem to be catching the mechanism that moves it into the print area.

Let's try to reset the Printer here:

Reset the product

  • With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.
  • Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
  • Wait at least 60 seconds.
  • Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet.
  • Reconnect the power cord to the printer.
  • Turn the printer on. HP recommends plugging the printer directly into a wall outlet.

Also, try connecting the Printer to a different wall outlet directly.

Also, let's try a firmware update: https://support.hp.com/in-en/document/ish_1776648-1643972-16
