HELP!! My printer is not recognizing my paper of choice. Trying to print on cardstock. Keep getting error message: load tray with paper. 😕

Welcome to the HP Community.
There is no such printer "Pavilion 8030"
If this is your printer:
HP OfficeJet Pro 8030e All-in-One Printer series
Then the following is relevant:
The printer supports Card paper as shown in the Specifications

Media weight supported (metric) | 60 to 105 g/m² (plain); 220 to 280 g/m² (photo); 75 to 90 g/m² (envelope); 163 to 200 g/m² (card) |
Media weight supported (U.S. standard) | 16 to 28 lb (plain paper); 60 to 75 lb (photo); 20 to 24 lb (envelope); 90 to 110 lb (card) |

If your software does not include media type (paper type) "Card",
Select the closest paper type you can find.
For example, look for: Thick, Brochure, Professional...
What about that paper message??
If you have not done so,
Right after you load the paper,
Check / modify the Paper Size / Type on the printer display panel and perhaps in EWS.
Assuming the Full Feature Software / full driver printer software is installed,
Set the Printing Preferences for Shortcut and Paper Size / Type (Media)
Check / Adjust / Retain the Paper Size and Type at the Printer Display Panel
NOTE This Section is not applicable to printers lacking a printer display panel.
Open Printer Tray,
If you have not yet done so, Remove / add desired paper size - type
else
Wait a few seconds
Close Printer Tray
On the Printer Control Display Panel,
Click Modify / Change / No-Yes (wording varies), adjust the paper size and type, Click OK

No Size? If the size of the Paper Size is not in the Drop-down list, Select Custom

- Not all printers support selection “Custom”
- "Copy" dislikes mismatched content / paper size and type. For example, select for Tray: Standard sized "Letter" / "A4" plain paper

Embedded Web Server (EWS)
NOTES
- EWS is available on many network connected printers.
- Laser Printers - Options and Settings - availability and location - are likely (and frequently) different.
If EWS is supported on your printer,
Use the Embedded Web Server (EWS) to view / configure your printer.
No Size? If the size of the Paper Size is not included in the Drop-down list, Select Custom
Copy dislikes mismatched content / paper size and type. If / As available, Check / Update Copy settings in EWS > Copy > Settings > Copy Defaults

Open your favorite browser > type / enter Printer IP address into URL / Address bar
Tab Settings > Preferences > Tray and Paper Management
Model Dependent: Check the Advanced section (at the bottom of the Tray and Paper Management menu)
Click Apply to save changes

EWS - HP Smart for Mobile - iOS / iPadOS

Open HP Smart (for mobile)
Open Settings wheel
Open Add / Set Up a Printer
Scroll down, Click, Tray and Paper
Model Dependent: Check / Adjust settings in Advanced
Click Apply to save changes

Control Panel > icon view > Devices and Printers
Right-Click on your printer > Printing Preferences
- When called from within printing software / applications, Printing Preferences might be called "Printer Properties" / "Shortcuts" / “More Settings” / “Properties” or similar.
- No Size? If the size of the Paper Size is not included in the Drop-down list, consider / try: Create a Custom Paper Size Form. Reference: HP Printers - Creating Custom Paper Sizes
NOTE >> Preferences and Envelopes:
Select / leave Printing Preferences Shortcut to "Everyday Printing" or something equally benign.
