I fully removed the paper tray to make adjustments, and now I cannot get it back in!
In the rear of the tray there is a metal piece with tabs that stick out the sides. These tabs block the tray from being re-inserted in the machine. What is the technique for getting the tray in without breaking anything?

Hi @453960,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
Reinstalling the paper tray on an HP Officejet Pro 8600 Plus can sometimes be a bit tricky. Here's a step-by-step guide to help you reinsert the paper tray properly without causing any damage.
- Orientation: Make sure you're holding the paper tray in the correct orientation. The wider side should be at the front, and the narrower side should be at the back.
- Position Tabs: Locate the metal piece with tabs on the rear of the tray. These tabs are designed to fit into corresponding slots inside the printer.
- Align Tabs: Align the tabs on the paper tray with the slots inside the printer. You may need to tilt the tray slightly to find the correct angle for insertion.
- Slide Tray In: Once the tabs are aligned with the slots, carefully slide the paper tray back into the printer. Apply gentle pressure as you push the tray in to ensure it goes in smoothly.
- Test: After reinserting the tray, test it by trying to pull it back out slightly. If it's properly inserted, it should slide in and out without any resistance.
- Check for Secure Fit: Ensure that the paper tray is securely in place and that there are no gaps between the tray and the printer.
If you're still having difficulty reinserting the paper tray, double-check to make sure you're aligning everything correctly. Sometimes it can help to inspect the slots inside the printer to ensure there are no obstructions blocking the insertion of the tray.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
