HP PageWide Pro 477dw Multifunction Printer
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi,

I have a fleet of Pagewide printers that I deploy through group policy.

Some of my users have trouble with their printers that even though I set tray 2 on the printer as the default for A4, when they print it will still ask to use tray1.

Tray1 has been set to "not available" in the device window of the printer, as well as on the printer UI and web page, yet I'm still seeing users have trouble printing to tray2 and the printer asking to go to the MPF which is tray1.

Is there any way I can actually remove the tray1 from the printer so it can stop detecting it?

The error you are describing is most often caused by users sending a job formatted for a paper size or paper type that is not loaded and set on the printer. Even if you could disable tray 1, this behavior is still going to be a problem for you. You need to come up with some training for your users on how to use a printer effectively.

If you find the information provided useful or solves your problems, help other users find the solution easier by giving kudos and marking my post as an accepted solution.
