Hi @CASSIE74 ,
Welcome to The HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand your HP OfficeJet Pro 6970 is stuck on the paper jam screen but there is no visible paper jam, here are some steps you can try to resolve the issue:
1. Check for Small Pieces of Paper or Debris:
- Even a small piece of paper or debris can cause the printer to think there's a jam. Carefully inspect the entire paper path, including the input tray, output tray, and any accessible internal areas.
2. Reset the Printer:
- Sometimes a simple reset can clear the error.
- Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
- Wait for about 60 seconds.
- Plug the printer back in and turn it on.
3. Open and Close the Access Door:
- Open the front or top access door to the printer, depending on your model. Wait a few moments, then close the door securely. This action can sometimes reset the sensor that detects jams.
4. Inspect the Rollers:
- Open the rear access door (if available) and check the rollers. Ensure they are clean and free of any debris. If the rollers are worn out, they might need replacement.
5. Remove and Reinstall the Cartridges:
- Turn off the printer, open the cartridge access door, and remove the ink cartridges. Reinstall them carefully and ensure they are properly seated.
6. Check for a Jam in the Automatic Document Feeder (ADF):
- If your printer has an ADF, lift the ADF cover and check for any jammed paper or debris there.
7. Update or Reinstall the Printer Firmware: Update the firmware on an HP printer
- Sometimes, a firmware update can resolve issues like false jam errors.
- Visit the HP support website and download the latest firmware for your printer.
- Follow the instructions to update the firmware.
8. Perform a Printer Hard Reset:
- If the above steps don’t work, you can try a hard reset.
- With the printer on, disconnect the power cord from the back of the printer.
- Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
- Wait 60 seconds.
- Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet and then into the printer.
- Turn on the printer.
