Hi @Swetjersey,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.
I hear you, when your HP printer refuses to print and insists there's no paper, even though you've carefully loaded it, it can feel like you're stuck in a loop of frustration. Especially when scanning works just fine, and you're relying on this for urgent work. Let's fix this together with a calm, methodical approach.
Fix: HP Printer Says “Load Paper” When Paper Is Loaded
Here’s a step-by-step guide with empathy and clarity, like a technician gently guiding you through a stubborn issue:
Step 1: Check Paper Tray Alignment
- Remove all paper from the tray.
- Fan the stack gently like flipping through a book to prevent sheets from sticking.
- Reload clean, flat, unused paper. Avoid curled or glossy sheets.
- Adjust the paper width guides so they touch the paper without squeezing it.
- Push the tray fully into the printer.
Step 2: Inspect for Paper Jams or Debris
- Open the rear access door or paper path cover.
- Use a flashlight to check for tiny bits of torn paper or dust.
- Remove any obstructions gently, like brushing away crumbs from a keyboard.
Step 3: Clean the Paper Feed Rollers
- Turn off and unplug the printer.
- Locate the grey feed rollers inside the tray or rear panel.
- Use a lint-free cloth dampened with distilled water to clean them.
- Let them dry for 10 minutes before powering back on.
Step 4: Reset the Printer
- With the printer on, unplug the power cord from the printer and the wall.
- Wait 60 seconds, let it breathe.
- Plug it back in and turn it on.
Step 5: Update Firmware
- Visit your printer’s support page and install the latest firmware: 👉 Official HP® Support
Step 6: Use HP App
- Download HP App – For HP Printers, Laptops, and Tech Accessories | HP® Official Site. It’s like a digital mechanic.
- Run diagnostics to detect and fix paper feed sensor issues.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have an amazing day!
