HP OfficeJet Pro 9015e All-in-One Printer

The left paper tray lever on my HP officejet Pro 9015e broke off and a spring with circular ends also came out.  Do I need to replace the drawer?  Think I may be able to replace spring if you can walk me through that.  Any help would be appreciated.  Printer is non-functional after this happened.

Hi @periodoc,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like a frustrating situation. The broken lever and the spring are likely essential components for the proper functioning of the paper tray. If the lever is broken and the spring has come out, it might be challenging to fix just the spring without replacing the lever or the entire paper tray assembly.

However, if you're comfortable with some DIY work, you might be able to replace the spring and possibly the lever if it's accessible. Here's a general guide to help you get started:

  • Gather Tools: You might need a screwdriver (usually Phillips-head) and possibly some tweezers or pliers to handle small parts.
  • Access the Broken Parts: Open up the printer's paper tray area to access the broken lever and spring. Be careful not to force anything or damage other components.
  • Assess the Damage: Determine the extent of the damage. If it's just the spring and the lever, examine if there's any way to reattach or replace them.
  • Locate Replacement Parts: If you need to replace the spring or the lever, you may need to order replacement parts from HP. Make sure you get the correct parts for your specific printer model.
  • Replace the Spring: If the spring is intact and you need to reattach it, examine where it was originally connected. Use tweezers or pliers to carefully maneuver it back into place.
  • Replace the Lever: If the lever is broken beyond repair, you might need to replace it. This might involve unscrewing the broken lever and screwing in the new one. Refer to the printer's manual for guidance on disassembly and reassembly.
  • Test the Tray: After replacing or reattaching the parts, test the paper tray to ensure that it moves smoothly and that the spring provides the necessary tension.
  • Reassemble the Printer: Once everything is in place and tested, reassemble the printer's paper tray area and any other components you may have removed.
  • Test the Printer: Turn on the printer and see if it functions properly. Try printing a test page to ensure that the paper tray operates correctly and that the printer can feed paper without issues.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
