Operating System: Microsoft Windows 10 (32-bit)

I have paper loaded in the tray but I still get a notification that the Tray is open or empty. How can I fix this? I tried unloading and reloading but no help.

I have an old HP C309.  When trying it use as a photocopier yesterday, it was fine at first, then started constantly flashing up the "Load paper into main tray" error message.  Needless to say it had plenty of paper in it!
