HP LaserJet 1018 Printer

When printing a single page from my laptop to my HP Laser Jet 108 printer the page prints OK but then another sheet of paper enters the printer and jams half way. This also happens when trying to print multiple pages. (The second sheet that jams is blank.)

The printer has performed without problems for several years. I've cleaned the inside and checked for jammed pieces of paper.

same problem was posted in Oct 2023 but I can not see a solution

Hi @JHdlR ,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand your HP LaserJet 1018 is having issues with paper feeding.

Here are some steps you can try to troubleshoot and hopefully resolve the problem:

  • Check for Obstructions: Make sure there are no small pieces of paper or other debris inside the printer that might be causing the paper to misfeed.
  • Inspect the Paper Path: Look at the paper path for any worn or damaged rollers. If the rollers are worn out, they may need to be replaced. The rollers are responsible for gripping and feeding the paper, so if they are not functioning properly, it can cause paper jams.
  • Verify Paper Quality: Ensure you are using paper that is within the recommended specifications for your printer. Paper that is too thick, too thin, or has a lot of dust or moisture can cause feeding problems.
  • Adjust Paper Guides: Make sure the paper guides in the paper tray are properly aligned with the paper. If the guides are too tight or too loose, it can lead to paper jams.
  • Clean the Rollers: Even though you’ve cleaned the inside, it’s a good idea to clean the rollers specifically. Use a lint-free cloth and a mild, non-abrasive cleaner to gently wipe the rollers.
  • Check Printer Settings: Ensure that the printer settings on your laptop match the type and size of paper you are using.
  • Update Printer Driver: Sometimes updating the printer driver can resolve issues. Go to the HP website, find the latest driver for your printer model, and install it.
  • Perform a Printer Reset: Sometimes a simple reset can resolve issues. Turn off the printer, unplug it for about a minute, and then plug it back in and turn it on.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

I have tried all this but it does not solve the problem - the printer grabs a second paper while it is still printing the original page which then causes the jam. Tried different papers etc but no joy. Installed the driver on different computer with different operatingssystem - no joy. The problem must be in the printer itself as somehow it thinks it must feed another page!
