When printing envelope a blank piece of paper will print after the envelope has printed. Printing from a HP Laser Jetpro M404n. Printing the envelope from the tray 1. Has not always done that. Have not changed any settings. Have been unable to find out what has caused the printer to start doing this.

What program are you printing envelops from and what settings are you using. While you state that you have not changed any settings, this type of error can be caused by paper size settings on the printer and it is pretty easy to accidently change those.
