My printer say the printer has a paper jam but when I open the top cover to get to the cartridge carrier the carriage won't move to the left. What do I need to do?

Hi @AllanOak,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand the carriage in your HP OfficeJet Pro 8025e All-in-One Printer won't move to the left and you're seeing a paper jam message, here are some steps you can try:

Power Cycle the Printer:

  • Turn off the printer using the power button.
  • Unplug the power cord from the back of the printer.
  • Wait for about 60 seconds.
  • Plug the power cord back in and turn the printer on.

Check for Obstructions:

  • Open the top cover and carefully inspect for any visible paper or other obstructions in the paper path.
  • Remove any paper or debris you find.

Manually Move the Carriage:

  • With the printer turned off, gently try to move the carriage to the center or the left side of the printer.
  • Be cautious and avoid forcing it, as this could cause damage.

Inspect and Clear the Paper Path:

  • Open the paper input tray and remove any paper. Check for any paper stuck inside.
  • Also, check the rear access door (if your model has one) and remove any jammed paper or debris.

Check for Jammed Paper in the Output Tray:

  • Remove the paper from the output tray and check if there's any jammed paper stuck there.

Reset the Printer:

  • Perform a factory reset if the problem persists and you’ve tried the above steps. Refer to the user manual or HP’s support site for instructions on how to perform a reset for your specific model.

Consult the Manual:

  • Refer to the user manual for specific instructions related to paper jams and carriage issues.

Refer to this document: HP OfficeJet Pro 8025e All-in-One Printer User manual

HP OfficeJet 8010, Pro 8020, and 8030 Printers - Paper jam error

HP Printers - Carriage jam or E3 error

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
