The printer extender tray is open and I can't swing it back into the paper tray. It seems to be jammed. I don't want to force it. Any ideas?

Update: I fixed the problem by carefully forcing the extender back into the printer. There were no obstructions and nothing to align, no grooves, nor is there a latching mechanism. The extender just pivots and it is completely enclosed above the paper tray so nothing else to be done... but a with a little more wiggling and elbow grease I managed to swing the extender back into its stored position. A couple more swings out and back in and now it moves smoothly and cleanly.

@mark870, Welcome to HP Support Community,
Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue
It sounds like the extender tray might be caught or misaligned. You’re right not to force it, as that could cause further damage. Here’s what you can try:
Check for Paper Obstructions
Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
Gently inspect the area around the extender tray for any pieces of paper, debris, or anything that could be blocking its movement. Sometimes small paper scraps or dust can cause it to get stuck.
Realign the Tray
Check the alignment: sometimes, the tray extender can become misaligned. Ensure that the tray is properly seated in the grooves and try to move it back into position slowly. If it feels like it's resisting, stop and check for any visible issue.
Inspect the Tray’s Latch or Locking Mechanism
There might be a small latch or locking mechanism that holds the tray in place when extended. Check if this is engaged and see if it’s possible to release it by gently pressing or sliding it.
I hope this helps.
Please feel free to reply here if you have any questions or if you need further clarification on any of the steps.
Take care and have a good day.
