hp office jet pro 7740  , had a paper jam opened the front cover to remove jam and ended up ripping the plastic ribbon tab off the one end. how to fix ?

You could try repairing the ribbon by using some duct tape on the end and then punching  hole where the original hole was on the plastic strip so you can remount it. Just be careful not to use so much that that it interferes with movement of the carriage.
