In order to narrow down the possible causes please read below:

Does the printer make noise on power up when it is initializing? If yes, remove all toner cartridges and then restart the printer. If you do not hear the noise during startup without cartridges then one of your cartridges are bad. Insert cartridges one at a time, closing the drawer and allowing the printer startup again. Repeat until you find the cartridge that makes the noise when installed and you have probably found your culprit. Cartridge failure is by far the most common fault, especially if you are using non-HP toners.

If the printer does make the same noise with no cartridges, tracking down the component may be more difficult. You need to listen closely around the printer until you can isolate where the noise is coming from. Watch the exit rollers and if the noise only occur when they are turning then a fuser or fuser drive issue or an exit gear issue is most probable.
