Hi @LAKENONA101,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If your HP LaserJet Pro MFP M225dw is showing a paper jam error but you can’t find any paper jammed in the printer, it might be due to a few different issues. Here’s a detailed troubleshooting guide to help you resolve this problem:
1. Check for Paper Jam Thoroughly
Inspect All Areas:
- Paper Tray: Ensure there are no paper pieces or obstructions in the paper tray.
- Output Tray: Check the output area where the paper exits.
- Fuser Area: Open the fuser unit and look for any jammed paper. Be cautious as the fuser may be hot.
- Rear Door: Open the rear access door and look for paper or obstructions.
Check the Rollers:
- Inspect the paper feed rollers for any paper residue or obstructions. Clean them gently with a lint-free cloth.
Manual Paper Feed:
- Feed a sheet of paper through the manual feed slot (if available) to see if it gets stuck or if there are any issues.
2. Reset the Printer
Power Cycle the Printer:
- Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
- Wait for about 60 seconds to let any residual power drain.
- Plug the printer back in and turn it on.
Perform a Hard Reset:
- Sometimes performing a hard reset can clear errors. Turn off the printer, unplug it, and then press and hold the power button for about 30 seconds before plugging it back in.
3. Check and Reset Sensors
Inspect Sensors:
- The printer has paper sensors that detect paper jams. Dust or debris on these sensors can cause false jam errors. Clean the sensors gently with a soft brush or compressed air if accessible.
Reset Sensors:
- Consult the printer’s manual for any procedures to reset or recalibrate the paper sensors.
4. Check Printer Settings and Software
- Ensure that your printer drivers and firmware are up-to-date. Visit the HP support website to download and install the latest updates.
- Verify that the print settings are correct and that there are no configuration issues that might be causing the error.
5. Inspect for Hardware Issues
- Look for any small objects or debris inside the printer that could be interfering with the paper path.
- If you’re comfortable doing so, inspect the internal components of the printer for any signs of damage or wear.
6. Consult the Printer Manual:
- Your printer’s manual might have specific instructions for troubleshooting paper jam errors. Check the manual for any additional steps or information.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.

Hello Rachel,
Thank you very much for the info. It was accurate and to the point.
All the YouTube videos missed telling about the cover in the back, which was picked up by a very helpful Staples employee. That's where the jam was.
Thanks again. The technological world is getting tougher for us non tech old folks.
