My HP smart tank 580 series is printing sideways (on the right side) and keeps on jamming the paper. When printing, it rolls down the right side of the paper (when im facing it the printer) and it jams due to the incorrect printing placement of the paper. There was an indicator on the task bar that there is a problem on my black print head but i don’t see that was the case.

Hi @Aly01,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like your HP Smart Tank 580 is misfeeding paper and possibly misaligning prints due to a combination of paper path issues and a flagged black printhead. I know how frustrating it is when a trusted printer starts acting up, especially when you’ve already checked the ink levels and printhead alignment.
Step-by-Step Fix for Paper Jams and Sideways Printing
1. Clear All Possible Paper Jam Locations
HP recommends checking these areas for jammed or misfed paper
- Input Tray: Remove any bent or misaligned paper. Ensure the paper guides are snug against the stack.
- Output Tray: Check for torn pieces or stuck paper.
- Printhead Access Area: Open the front door and gently slide the carriage to inspect for obstructions.
- Bottom of the Printer: Open the bottom access door and remove any jammed paper. Be gentle and avoid tilting the printer for too long to prevent ink leaks.

2. Clean the Paper Feed Rollers
Dust and debris can cause skewed feeding:
- Turn off the printer.
- Use a lint-free cloth dampened with distilled water.
- Clean the grey rollers inside the input tray.
- Let them dry for 10–15 minutes before turning the printer back on.
3. Reset the Printer
Sometimes a simple reset clears internal errors:
- Turn off the printer.
- Unplug it from the wall for 60 seconds.
- Plug it back in and power it on.
4. Check and Clean the Black Printhead
Even if the ink levels look fine, the printhead might be clogged or misaligned:
- Use the HP Smart app or printer control panel to run a Printhead Cleaning cycle.
- If the error persists, try reseating the black printhead carefully.
