HP OfficeJet Pro 8720 All-in-One Printer
macOS 12.0 Monterey

Regardless of amount of paper in tray, it continues to suck up more than a page or just jams regardless of removing all pages or pieces of pages that were jammed, usually in the back of the printer where the paper is initially drawn up for printing.

Hi @55964JC,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

Thanks for reaching out, and I completely understand how frustrating constant paper jams can be, especially when it seems like you're doing everything right.

Given the issue you're describing with your HP OfficeJet Pro 8720, it sounds like a problem with the paper pickup rollers or the paper feed mechanism. Here are a few steps you can try:

Recommended Steps:

  1. Power Reset the Printer:
    • Turn off the printer, and unplug it from the power.
    • Wait 60 seconds, then plug it back in and power it on.

  2. Clean the Paper Feed Rollers:
    • Remove the paper from the tray.
    • Open the rear access door (where jams usually occur).
    • Use a lint-free cloth very lightly moistened with distilled water to gently clean the rollers.
    • Let them dry for 10–15 minutes before using the printer again.

  3. Use the Right Paper:
    • Make sure the paper is clean, flat, not too thick, and loaded correctly (not overfilled).
    • Fan the stack of paper to avoid sheets sticking together.

  4. Update Printer Firmware:
    • Visit HP’s Software & Drivers page and enter your printer model.
    • Download and install any available firmware updates for macOS Monterey.

  5. Try a Paper Feed Test:
    • Open the HP Smart app or Printer Utility.
    • Run a "Paper Feed Test" if available.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
