My HP OfficeJet Pro 8715 has quit printing on photo paper.  I only use HP glossy photo paper.  But, now it just runs it through and spits it out, leaving long black streaks on the back side of the photo paper.  I print perfect on plain printer paper.  Any ideas?

I completed all the suggested fixes, no help.  It prints like it should on regular paper.  Up until 3 days ago it printed as it should on HP photo paper.  Then it started feeding the photo paper through without printing, however it left long black streaks on the reverse side of the photo paper.

There is little left, I think.

Will that work?  Maybe - it is more effort but might help.

The Troubleshooting for this printer series  is fairly complete, more so, in fact, than for many printers.

Sometimes it is as easy as having uninstalled / reinstalled the printer software and running a cleaning cycle a couple of times.

Assuming these have been completed:

Step 1  Clean the printer (twice, thirty minutes apart),

Step 2  Uninstall / Restart / Reinstall the printer software,

Step 3  Check / Change the photo paper (this is important - it is unusual, but the paper itself can cause issues),

Step 4  Check / Verify / Assign Shortcut in the Printing Preferences (paper size / type / print quality settings),

Step 5  Check Ink levels,

Step 6  Replace any low ink cartridges,

Steps 7-11  Run all the diagnostics - and these do pass,

Step 12  Wait 30 minutes > and recleaned the printhead,

Step 13 Check the Print Quality Diagnostic page and a final cleaning.

Step 14  Replace the printhead (which usually takes some time, so kudos on finding the part and replacing it).

These steps include all the parts of the ink system to which you have access.

If you did not actually replace the printhead,

Take a look at the following - it is a bit more work than simple replacement but might work for you.

Manually Clean a Removeable Printhead | HP Printers | @HPSupport

There are other similar videos - if you do not like the example shown above, look for another that better suits your needs.

What else?

I am out of ideas - I no longer have my OfficeJet Pro 8740 and it never required more than the usual cleaning and maintenance.

Thanks for all your suggestions.  I'm going to try to manually clean the paper feed rollers and see if that works.  I know it isn't the print heads, because it prints great on regular paper.  I've tried different batches of photo paper with the same results, so I think it has something to do with the sensors or rollers that input the paper.  All the best,

Wayne

You are welcome.

Hopefully, something will work.

This is a nice series of printer - it would be nice if you can get it working again.
