Hi @Mikevv,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like the printer might be detecting a paper jam sensor issue, even if there’s no visible jam. Here are some additional steps you can try to resolve the "Paper Jam" error on your HP ENVY 7640.

Check the Paper Path Again:

  • Double-check the paper path, including areas around the rollers and the back of the printer. Sometimes, small scraps of paper or dust can cause a jam error.
  • Remove the paper tray and inspect the area carefully.

Check the Printhead Area:

  • Sometimes paper can get stuck in the printhead area. Gently lift the printhead access door and check for any paper remnants.

Clear the Paper Jam Sensor:

  • The printer might have a misaligned or dirty paper jam sensor. These sensors are usually located inside the printer, near the rollers. Use a soft, dry cloth to clean them carefully. You might need a flashlight to locate the sensors.

Reset the Printer:

  • If you haven’t already done this, try resetting the printer. Turn it off, unplug it from the power source for about 60 seconds, then plug it back in and power it up.

Perform a Printer Reset:

  • You can perform a hard reset on the printer:
    • Turn off the printer.
    • Unplug the power cord.
    • Wait for 30 seconds, then plug it back in and turn the printer on.

Check for Firmware Updates:

  • In some cases, a firmware update can resolve false error messages. Check if there's a firmware update available for your printer via the HP Smart app or the HP website.

Examine the Rear Panel:

  • If your printer has a rear access panel for paper jams, remove it and check for any hidden paper that may be stuck.

Use the HP Print and Scan Doctor (Windows):

  • If you’re on a Windows computer, download and run the HP Print and Scan Doctor to automatically diagnose and fix issues, including paper jams.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Thanks for providing these methods! I did try all the above methods but none worked. I used the printer for more than 8 years and decided to switch to a newer version.
