Hi @marvin516,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If the paper tray (drawer) of your printer is stuck and will not open, it can be due to several reasons, including misalignment, obstruction, or a mechanical issue. Here are some steps to troubleshoot and attempt to resolve the issue:
Step 1: Power Off and Unplug the Printer
- Turn off the printer using the power button.
- Unplug the printer from the power source to ensure safety while you attempt to open the paper tray.
Step 2: Check for Physical Obstructions
- Inspect the Exterior:
- Look around the exterior of the paper tray for any visible obstructions or objects that might be preventing it from opening.
- Gently Shake the Printer:
- With the printer unplugged, gently tilt or shake the printer to see if anything inside is blocking the paper tray from sliding out.
Step 3: Manually Release the Paper Tray
- Locate the Manual Release Mechanism:
- Some printers have a manual release mechanism or a latch that can be used to open the paper tray. Refer to your printer’s manual for specific instructions.
- Use Gentle Force:
- If there is no manual release mechanism, gently try to wiggle and pull the tray. Avoid using excessive force to prevent damage.
Step 4: Check the Ink Cartridge Installation
- Ensure Proper Installation:
- Sometimes, improperly installed ink cartridges can cause internal components to misalign, affecting the paper tray.
- Open the printer’s cartridge access door and check that the new black ink cartridge is properly seated and securely in place.
Step 5: Access from the Rear
- Open the Rear Access Door (if available):
- If your printer has a rear access door or panel, open it to gain a better view of the internal components.
- Look for any signs of jams or obstructions that might be causing the paper tray to stick.
Step 6: Apply Lubrication (If Necessary)
- Lubricate the Tracks:
- If the paper tray appears to be stuck due to friction or dryness, you can apply a small amount of lubricant to the tracks.
- Use a silicon-based lubricant or a very light application of a suitable household lubricant.
Preventive Measures for Future
- Regular Maintenance:
- Regularly clean and inspect the paper tray and surrounding areas to prevent dust or debris buildup.
- Proper Handling:
- Handle the paper tray gently and ensure it is properly aligned when inserting or removing it to avoid future jams.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
