I bought a Smart Tank Plus 651 and every time I try to feed an envelope into it it jams up. Loved my HP Envy 7640. Never had a problem with it but it finally died. THis was suggested by the place we purchased it from and it has been a nightmare. Any good suggestions on what I must be doing wrong feeding the envelope

Hi @becky1977,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
Feeding envelopes into the HP Smart Tank Plus 651 can be tricky if the printer's settings and alignment are not properly configured. Here are some steps to help you avoid jamming issues and successfully print envelopes.
Check Printer Settings
- Ensure the paper type and size in the print settings match the envelope you're using.
- Open the print dialog on your computer.
- Select the correct paper size (e.g., #10 Envelope or another appropriate size) in the printer settings.
- Choose Envelope as the paper type if the option exists.
Adjust the Input Tray
- Load one envelope at a time to prevent overlapping or jamming.
- Place the envelope in the input tray with the print side facing up and the flap positioned appropriately (usually on the left or as indicated in the printer's user manual).
- Align the paper guides snugly against the envelope without bending it. Loose guides can cause the envelope to feed at an angle.
Use Compatible Envelopes
- Ensure the envelopes are compatible with the printer:
- Use envelopes that are not too thick or textured.
- Avoid using envelopes with clasps, windows, or adhesives that could stick during printing.
Check for Obstructions
- Open the printer and inspect for any leftover scraps or obstructions from previous jams.
- Clean the paper feed rollers gently with a lint-free cloth and distilled water to ensure proper grip.
Update Printer Firmware
- Make sure your printer firmware is up to date. Firmware updates can resolve feed and compatibility issues.
Print a Test
- Print a test page with the envelope settings to verify the alignment and adjust if necessary.
- If misaligned, use your computer's print preferences to fine-tune the margins or orientation.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
