Hi @gnash777

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

Thanks for explaining the situation—I'm really sorry this persistent Windows Update error has been such a roadblock. The error code 0x800f020b typically means that Windows is trying to install a driver update for a device that’s either not currently connected or not detected properly, often related to USB-based printers or scanner components.

Let’s walk through a focused approach to help resolve it:

Step-by-Step Fix for Windows Update Error 0x800f020b

1. Disconnect the Printer Temporarily

  • Unplug the USB cable from your HP OfficeJet Pro 9015 (if connected)
  • Restart your computer
  • Try running Windows Update again

This prevents Windows from attempting to install a driver for a device it can’t fully detect.

2. Manually Install the Correct Driver

Installing the full driver package ensures all components are properly registered, which may stop Windows from pushing incomplete updates.

3. Hide the Problematic Update

If the error persists, you can prevent Windows from retrying the same update:

This stops Windows from attempting to install the problematic driver again.

4. Clear Windows Update Cache

  • Open Command Prompt as Administrator
  • Run the following commands one by one:
    net stop wuauserv
    net stop bits
    del /f /s /q %windir%\SoftwareDistribution\Download
    net start wuauserv
    net start bits

This clears the update cache and may remove corrupted remnants of the failed driver.

Let me know what happens after installing the full driver and hiding the update—I’ll guide you further if needed. You’ve done everything right by staying persistent—I’ll stay with you until it’s resolved.
