3rd party cartridges blocked

Just installed some new cartridges, not HP.  The printer will not work now.  This is tantamount to blackmail.  The tactic reminds me of old-school mafia guys selling "protection".

I actually like this printer, it's an all-in-one copy/scan/print system, HP 6978.  But I am quite angry at this tactic.  Ink jet ink has been around long enough that good quality stuff is available from many sources, I mean come on, it's just ink.  This is just a way for HP to maintain connection to its customers and gouge them for more money.  HP should put it's time an effort into making higher quality products, not low level scam tactics.

Well it hasn't worked on me.  HP,  I am going to recycle this printer and buy a different brand.  Furthermore, I won't ever buy a HP product again.  So this strategy hasn't worked, and I doubt it will work on many people.

I have to agree. I have owned HP laptops for years and I have an HP laser printer. I'm really pissed of about this cartridge situation, and I too will never be buying an HP product again.
