I used the hp support chat to get help for setting up a new wifi printer. The chat said someone would call me. A call came a few minutes later

 They could not get the printer to connect to my laptop.  They had another tech call that I granted remote access to laptop and they showed me corrupted files and programs not working.  They did a program to clean the system. Then they offered a different anti-virus that I had them install.  After all this I an afraid that I  may have been scammed.  Does the firm Nexa tech work as a contractor for Hp. Still not sure if it was a scam.

It’s understandable to feel concerned about the legitimacy of the support you received, especially when remote access and additional software installations were involved. 

 

Nexa Tech is not from HP. HP’s official support channels can be found here, where you can verify authorized service providers.

 

If you suspect a scam:
 

  • Run a security scan using your existing antivirus software to check for any unwanted programs.
  • Review installed software and remove anything suspicious.
  • Monitor your accounts for any unusual activity if payment details were shared.
  • Contact HP directly to confirm whether the support interaction was legitimate.
