HP 4155e will not print and is unavailable. It was working fine until last week when I tried to run a realignment. Since then the Wifi light is blinking and the machine does not print or scan anything. It will not print diagnostic or information pages. I've tried to re-add the printer via the HP Smart app. It find the printer but then I get the error "An Unexpected Error Has Occurred" and then it asks to me to install HP Smart on a computer and set up the printer from there. I have no compatible device to install it to. HP support told me it was an issue with the ink cartridges, despite no error messages,  and sent me new ones. Predictably, this did not solve the problem.  I have tried:

Resetting the printer multiple times.

Unplugging and plugging it back in multiple times.

Deleting and reinstalling the HP Smart app.

Installing HP Smart app on another device and trying there.

Anyone have other ideas? I'll keep trying HP support but it's very difficult dealing with them.

Factory reset of the printer is described 2 different ways here

You will need to do a wi-fi connect.  This video uses a smart phone

I recommend the WPS pushbutton as described on page 5 of the users manual

Full feature windows drivers are here

Hi, thanks for your reply. Unfortunately none of these items helped. I've tried resetting the printer multiple times. The WiFi connect does not work..I get to a point where it says "An Unexpected Error Has Occurred" and then tells me to try using a Windows device to connect the printer. This is not an option, and I was able to successfully get the printer working with the HP app on my phone when it was first purchased. An update: and reinstalling the cartridges for a 3rd time I was able to finally get the unit to print by using WiFi Direct connection, but I still cannot get the unit to connect to WiFi and I can not get the printer to complete setup on the HP app.

I am not sure what is happening.

Your PC or laptop runs windows.  Is that correct?  If MacOS and Sonoma there are known problems as Sonoma just came out.

What device can connect using Wi-FI direct?

You can print from your smart phone using Wi-Fi direct.  Is that correct?

The HP Smart app on your smartphone recognized the printer. Is that correct?  If it does, you should be able to have HP Smart select a PDF file from the phone and print it even if nothing else can be printed.

The HP 4155e can access both the 5ghz and the 2.4ghz band.  Windows 11 will block WEP and TKIP. Make sure your router is wpa2 and aes.  It might help to configure the router, printer and the pc to all use the 5ghz band.  For Wi-Fi direct printing both devices must be on the same band.  I cannot easily set my iPhone to 2.4ghz so I cannot use the direct method on my LJ.  In any event, it is hardwired to my modem so Wi-Fi is not possible.

Make sure wpa2/aes is selected.

I have an Arris modem, yours may be different. This tutorial is helpful. The username might be "admin" and the password should be printed somewhere on the modem. If not, then use that tutorial. Use a different name for the 2.4 and the 5ghz bands. To keep it simple, use the same password and use only numeric digits such as someone's phone number. When in the router, run the app that finds the channel with the least amount of noise for both bands as indicated above.

No I do not have a Windows or Mac laptop. I primarily use an android phone and Chrome OS tablet for work/personal use. I was able to complete set up and print fine over home WiFi until about a week ago using various applications and the HP Smart app. The app no longer recognizes the printer. It says it is "Unavailable" and is not selectable when I try to print something. I am able to print using the WiFi Direct function connecting directly to the printer using my phone, but I am unable to print otherwise. The WiFi light on the printer is continuously blinking. When I try and set-up the printer in the HP Smart app again, trying to connect it to the WiFi it fails. Nothing has changed as far as my WiFi password or router settings, and again up until about a week ago it worked perfectly fine connected to my home WiFi

I have Samsung tablet and occasionally an android update comes in. I  have never tried to print from it nor intall HP Smart.

AFAICT the blinking Wi-Fi LED indicate no connection to the router.  If you print from your phone does it stop blinking and then resume blinking after the print job?

If you use the front panel display to get a network report I suspect the IP address will be unassigned and not matching the DHCP set of number the modem is using.  The network report will give the printers MAC address and you should be able to find that exact MAC address in the modems device list if it was working a week ago.

I have no experience with Chrome OS.   If you have google's chromebook there is a community  / forum where you might ask if there has been a recent change in chrome such as expired certificate or updated firewall but I am just guessing

https://www.chromebookforum.com/

Have you reset your modem?  I have to do that frequently on my Arris and I ended up getting a battery backup to avoid having power glitches locking the modem up.
