HP 4630
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have an HP 4630 3 in 1 my black ink cartridge has ink I can print, copy and scan in color but it will not print or copy in black and white, but if I scan an a document and print it out it will use the black ink. If I print from my Dell laptop the color comes out but anything in black will not come out as If I ran out of black ink, and if I use that document and try to make a black and white copy to no avail, but yet if that document I scan it I can print that scanned copy, puzzling, I tried deleting the drivers and reinstalling it and nothing, I tried power cycling the printer and removing the black ink cartridge and reinstalling it and nothing

@Lou108, Welcome to the HP Support Community! I’m here to help.

If you are not able to make copies in black, it could be related to the ink cartridge even if you can print the scanned documents. Let us try these steps:

Reset the printer

  1. With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.
  2. Wait at least 60 seconds.
  3. Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the printer.
  4. Turn ON the printer, if it does not automatically turn on.
  5. Wait until the printer is idle and silent before you proceed.

Note: HP recommends connecting the printer directly to a wall outlet rather than a surge protector or a power strip.

Perform the steps mentioned in this document - Printer Does Not Print Black or Color Ink

Clean the ink cartridge twice and print a test page.

If the issue persists, kindly replace the black ink cartridge. You may visit the online Hp Store to order a compatible one or buy it from a local store.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.
