Hi @bnlbr,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

Your HP ENVY 5660 e-All-in-One can print and copy, but fails to scan because the printer cannot maintain a stable connection with your computer during the scanning process. This issue usually relates to software, connectivity, or driver conflicts.

Here’s how you can fix it:

Step 1: Check Connection Type

  • If you’re using Wi-Fi, ensure the printer and computer are on the same network.
  • If possible, try scanning via USB cable to rule out wireless interference.

Step 2: Restart Devices

  • Power off the printer and computer.
  • Wait 60 seconds, then restart both.
  • This clears temporary glitches like giving them a fresh start.

Step 3: Update HP Software

Step 4: Use HP App

Step 5: Check Windows/Mac Scan Settings

  • On Windows: Open HP Scan or Windows Fax and Scan.
  • On Mac: Use HP Easy Scan.
  • Ensure the correct printer is selected and the scan profile is set properly.

Step 6: Reinstall HP App (Optional)

  • If you use the HP app, uninstall and reinstall it.
  • Sign in with your HP account and re-add the printer.

If the error persists, it could be due to:

  • Firewall or antivirus is blocking the scan communication.
  • Corrupted scan drivers.

In that case, temporarily disable the firewall/antivirus and retry.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
