I am having the same issue as a lot of other customers. My officejet 6968 is blocking me from using 3rd party ink. One of the post lists that HP is concerned about print quality as a reason. After I made the purchase of this printer, the print quality is my concern and has nothing to do with you (HP). How is it remotely fair or legal that you can strong-arm me into buying your overpriced ink? I will be shopping for a for a new printer this weekend, as a new printer won't be much more than a set of XL cartridges. I refuse to buy those cartridges, and will gladly take the hit on the cost of a new printer. I've bought many HP products in my lifetime, but you have lost a customer. And, I will tell anybody that will listen about this ridiculous practice.

@kfoster1074, Welcome to HP Support Community!
The third party ink cartridges will work. But there are many cartridges in the market which is refilled and sometimes the chip is not configured to work with the printer. You need to contact the cartridge manufacturer and find out why its not working. Try a different cartridge supplier and check if that works.
I hope that answers your concern adequately. Let me know!
