HP Smart Tank 7605 All-in-One
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I really hope someone can help. At wits end.

Have gone through several rounds of troubleshooting and and resetting for printer and still shows offline on computer.

Printed copied fine from printer itself.

Tried to update drivers and display stuck with code 8af30001 as shown on photo.

Hard reset won't work either.

Hi @Ulfapme ,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand you are getting the error code 8af30001 on the HP Smart Tank 7605 typically points to a firmware or hardware malfunction. Since the printer was initially offline and now has this error, the issue might have escalated due to the troubleshooting attempts. Here’s how you can address it step by step:

1. Perform a Power Reset

  1. Turn off the printer and unplug the power cord from the back of the printer and the wall outlet.
  2. Wait for 2-3 minutes.
  3. Plug the printer back into a direct wall outlet (avoid surge protectors or power strips) and power it on.

2. Update Firmware via USB Update the firmware on an HP printer

If the display is stuck but the printer still connects via USB, attempt a firmware recovery:

  1. Connect the printer to your PC using a USB cable.
  2. Visit the HP Firmware Update Utility page on your PC.
  3. Download and run the firmware update tool for your printer model.
  4. Follow the prompts to update the firmware, even if the display is unresponsive.

3. Attempt a Semi-Full Reset

If a power reset doesn't work, try a semi-full reset to restore the printer to factory settings:

  1. Turn off the printer.
  2. Press and hold Cancel + Copy (Black) while turning it back on.
  3. Release the buttons once the HP logo or startup screen appears.
  4. Check if the error resolves.

4. Check for Offline Status on Windows

After resolving the error code:

  1. Open the Devices and Printers window on your PC.
  2. Right-click your printer and select See what’s printing.
  3. In the queue window, select Printer > uncheck Use Printer Offline.
  4. Ensure the printer is set as the default.

5. Firmware Recovery Mode (if no response)

If the printer's display remains stuck:

  1. Disconnect the printer from power.
  2. Press and hold the Power button and reconnect the power cord.
  3. Continue holding the button until "Firmware Recovery" appears (if available).
  4. Connect to a PC via USB and rerun the firmware utility.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
