Hi @craftyrose
Welcome to the HP support community.
I understand you're experiencing an issue with your HP device, and I apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused. I'm here to help you today.
If your HP ENVY 7855 printer is freezing on startup, this can be caused by several factors, such as a software issue, a hardware problem, or a temporary glitch. Here’s a step-by-step guide to troubleshoot and fix the issue:
1. Power Cycle the Printer
- Turn off the printer.
- Unplug the power cord from the back of the printer and from the wall outlet.
- Wait for about 30 seconds to 1 minute.
- Plug the printer back in and turn it on.
Check if the printer still freezes when starting up.
2. Perform a Hard Reset.
- Turn off the printer and unplug the power cord from the wall and the back of the printer.
- Wait for about 60 seconds to allow the printer to fully reset.
- Plug the printer back in, then turn it on.
3. Check for Paper Jams
Sometimes, paper jams inside the printer can cause it to freeze during startup.
- Open the front access panel and check for any paper jams or debris inside the printer.
- Carefully remove any paper that is stuck in the printer.
- Close the access panel and power on the printer again to see if it starts normally.
4. Disconnect Any External Devices
- Disconnect any devices that are plugged into the printer.
- Restart the printer to see if it powers up correctly.
5. Reset the Printer to Factory Defaults
- Turn on the printer and go to the Settings or Setup menu on the printer’s control panel.
- Look for Restore Defaults or Factory Reset (this option can vary depending on the model).
- Confirm the reset and wait for the printer to reboot.
After the reset, try setting up the printer again from scratch.
6. Update Printer Firmware
Outdated or corrupted firmware can cause startup issues.
- Go to the HP Support Website and search for your HP ENVY 7855 printer.
- Download and install any available firmware updates for your printer.
- You can also update the firmware via the HP Smart app if you have it installed on your computer or mobile device.
7. Reinstall Printer Software
- Uninstall the printer software from your computer.
- Go to the HP Support website and download the latest drivers and software for your printer.
- Install the new software and try setting up the printer again.
I hope this helps! Keep me posted.
