Hi @Galveston2,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

To resolve issues with your HP Officejet 8020e printer not printing because it needs to be linked to your HP Instant Ink account, follow these steps:

  1. Obtain the Printer Serial Number:
    • While the printer itself may not visibly display the serial number, you can often find it by printing a Network Configuration Report or checking within your printer settings. To print this report, go to the printer’s control panel, navigate to 'Settings' or 'Network Settings,' and select 'Print Network Configuration.'

  2. Reinstall the Printer:
    • Remove Existing Installation: Uninstall any current installations of the printer from your computer. Go to 'Devices and Printers' in Windows settings, right-click on the HP Officejet 8020e printer, and select 'Remove device.'
    • Reinstall Using HP Smart: Download and open the HP Smart. Follow the prompts to add your printer using Wi-Fi or a USB connection. The app will guide you through connecting to your network and installing your printer.

  3. Link Printer to HP Instant Ink:
    • Sign into Your Instant Ink Account: Go to the instantink.hpconnected.com/us/en/l/v2 and sign in with your account credentials.
    • Enter the Claim Code: From the HP Smart app, find the claim code for your printer. Enter this code on your Instant Ink account page to link the printer.
    • Check Account and Printer Connection: Ensure your Instant Ink account reflects the correct printer by verifying the printer's serial number and claim code.

  4. Troubleshoot if Necessary:
    • If you're still unable to find the serial number, contact HP Support for assistance. They can help verify your printer details and ensure everything is correctly set up.
    • If linking issues persist, check your HP account for any overdue payment issues, as this could affect the service.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
