Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

My Mom has an older HP laptop running Win 10 Home, and has had the HP 8610 printer for several years now, I believe it was originally purchased in 2016. The printer and laptop have been setup and working for several years, with both the laptop and the printer connected wirelessly to the network.  Recently the printer has stopped responding.

I uninstalled it through the Windows Setting page, selecting Remove Device. I restarted Windows and confirmed through the Settings page that the printer was no longer installed.

I downloaded the OJ8610_198.exe install program for the new install. During the install, the program did not prompt for the EULA accept, it went directly to the type of install selection screen, where I selected the wireless connection. It then showed the printer and it's IP address. I selected the printer and continued with the installation. The program showed the progress bar and the firtst stage of the installation, but never continued from there. Eventually it ended with a notice that it could not install the printer. However, on the Windows Settings page both the printer and HP ePrint were available, and I was able to print from both Adobe DC and Firefox. When I I acknowledged the installation error, both the printer and ePrint disappeared.

I ran the HP Print and Scan Doctor diagnostic tool through it's end. During this, there were some HP 8610 services that were installed in 2016 that were removed.

When attempting to re-install the printer this time, I did get the EULA page, then selected the wireless install option, but it did not go to the network page. It simply progressed through the installation progress bars, installing the basic drivers and completing. But the printer was not installed nor listed in the Windows Settings page, however the HP ePrint was installed.

I ran the HP Print and Scan Doctor diagnostic tool again,  with the same result.

Any thoughts?

Hi @TomC11

Welcome to the HP Support Community. I'd be happy to assist you

Due to the current global COVID-19 situation, we're seeing an influx of customers coming in for support. We appreciate your patience.

 Let's try and uninstall the printer software from the root level on your PC and install the full feature printer software.

--->In Windows, search for and open Programs and Features.

--->Select your HP printer.

--->Select Uninstall.

--->In Windows, search for and open Devices and Printers.

--->In the Devices and Printers window look for your HP Printer. If you see it listed, right-click on it and choose "Delete" or "Remove Device.”

--->Open up the run command with the "Windows Key + R" key combo.

--->Type printui.exe /s and click OK.

--->Click on the Drivers tab.

--->Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it click on it and click remove at the bottom.

--->Select OK.

--->Select Apply and OK on the Print Server Properties windows.

--->Close Devices and Printers.

And then reinstall the printer full-featured drivers from software and drivers page

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.
