Following firmware update, my hp ink cartridges were not recognized. Tried the usual. Reboot, long reboot, restore to factory. Following restore , sent to download driver, but can’t connect to wireless router. Router “sees” printer. Phone snoop “”sees” Bluetooth. Printer “sees” phone, but does not interact. No home page. How do I load functioning firmware?

Hi @Mkeamy,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

I understand how frustrating this must feel, especially after a firmware update disconnects your printer from wireless, blocks cartridge recognition, and leaves you without a homepage or setup access. Let's get your OfficeJet Pro 9015e back on track.

Step 1: Reconnect to a Network

Why this matters: A working internet connection is essential to restore firmware and activate features like HP+ and ink detection.

Option A: Ethernet Cable

Connect a Cat5/Cat6 cable from the printer to your router, then power-cycle the printer:

  1. Disconnect power for 60 seconds.
  2. Reconnect power and Ethernet.
  3. The printer should regain internet connectivity.

Option B: Restore Wireless Settings

On the printer control panel:

  1. Go to Setup (gear icon) → Network Settings → Restore Network Settings.
  2. Use the Wireless Setup Wizard under Network to reconnect to your Wi-Fi.

Step 2: Re-apply Firmware Properly

Once the printer is online:

  1. Go to your computer and visit HP OfficeJet Pro 9015e All-in-One Printer | HP® Support👉 Download the latest firmware using HP Printer Update Utility
  2. Run the utility and follow prompts to reinstall or update firmware.
  3. Important: Do not power off the printer during this process.

Step 3: Resolve Cartridge Recognition Error

After the firmware is restored:

  1. Power cycle the printer (unplug for 60 seconds, then reconnect).
  2. Remove all cartridges, gently clean the gold contacts with a lint-free cloth and distilled water, and dry.
  3. Reinstall them firmly and check for errors.
  4. Ensure you're using genuine HP cartridges, as firmware updates may block counterfeit or refilled ones.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!

I am on OS x Tahoe 26.1. I don't see any options for OS x on the support page

Hi @Mkeamy,

Thank you for getting back to me. I’m sorry to hear that you’re still experiencing trouble. I know how frustrating that can be.

To move forward, I’d recommend installing the HP app on your macOS device. Once installed, please use the app to set up the printer using the Tahoe 26 version. This setup method often helps resolve connection and configuration issues.

Please let me know how it goes, and I’ll be here if you need any assistance along the way.

Take care and have an amazing day!

So, tried that. Printer connects to WiFi. Router/ modem sees it. App does not. Today new behavior; printer cycles from startup to “cancel” permanent doom loop.
solved my problem. Bought an Epson.  Will recycle this unit. Leaves a bad taste to be bricked by a firmware update on a fully functioning printer. I’ve spent too many hours tinkering with this unit trying to be responsible. I am an old engineer who remembers when HP made the best test equipment. A sad story of a formerly great company. Thanks for trying to help.

Hi @Mkeamy,

Thank you for taking the time to share this update. I’m genuinely sorry for the frustration and time you’ve had to invest, especially given your technical background and the effort you made to keep the printer working. I completely understand how disappointing it is to see a device that was previously functioning end up stuck in a loop after a firmware update. Anyone would feel let down in that situation.

I also appreciate your honesty and the perspective you shared about HP’s legacy. Feedback like this is important, and I can assure you it will be passed along to the appropriate teams. While I regret that we weren’t able to bring this printer back to a stable state, I respect your decision and understand why you chose to move on rather than spend more time troubleshooting.

Thank you for giving us the opportunity to try to help and for communicating so clearly throughout. I’m truly sorry for the experience you had, and I wish you a much smoother and more reliable experience going forward.

Take care and have an amazing day!

One last observation.

The ethernet port was blocked with a paper cover on the 9015E. The port does not accept the ethernet cable once the paper cover which had the circle-with-a-line through it symbol. So that avenue for restoration was unavailable.

My decision to switch to Epson after multiple decades of HP  was based upon  the need to discard a perfectly mechanically intact printer due to a bad firmware update with no path back to restore functionality. I greatly disturbs me to think of this machine sitting in a junk pile, with about $150 of 962 cartridges which had been recently purchased. Unconscionable!

Thanks for trying to help. Happy New Year.
