@oldkuntryboy, Welcome to HP Support Community,

Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue

If you are experiencing a problem where your printer is asking for setup cartridges even after installing new cartridges, here are a few steps you can follow to troubleshoot and resolve the issue:

Ensure Proper Cartridge Installation:

  • Make sure that the cartridges you are using are compatible with your printer model.
  • Verify that the cartridges are installed in the correct slots. Check the printer's manual for proper guidance.

Reset the Printer:

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
  • Wait for about a minute, then plug it back in and turn it on.
  • This reset can help clear any temporary errors that are causing the issue.

Perform a Firmware Update:

  • Sometimes, updating the printer's firmware can resolve errors related to cartridges.
  • Visit the HP Support website and enter your printer model to download and install the latest firmware.

Use HP Recommended Cartridges:

  • If possible, ensure that you are using genuine HP setup or replacement cartridges.
  • Non-HP cartridges might not be recognized correctly by the printer.

Check for Errors and Messages:

  • Pay close attention to any error messages or codes displayed on the printer’s control panel, and refer to the user manual for specific troubleshooting steps.

I hope this helps.

Please feel free to reply here if you have any questions or if you need further clarification on any of the steps.

Take care and have a good day.
