Hi @gribster

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

To enable connection from your ARM-based Asus laptop to an HP 82550 device (which I assume is a printer or similar HP product), you will need to make sure that your ARM-based laptop has the appropriate drivers and software to communicate with the HP printer or device.

Here’s what you can do to try and get the HP 82550 working with your ARM-based Asus laptop:

1. HP Printer Drivers for ARM-based Systems

HP typically offers drivers for a wide range of operating systems, but ARM-based systems, like those running Windows on ARM or Linux ARM, may require specific versions of drivers.

For Windows on ARM: If you're running Windows 11 or Windows 10 on an ARM system, you’ll want to check for drivers specifically for ARM architecture. HP might not have an official ARM driver for every printer, but it’s worth checking:

  • Visit the HP Support website.
  • Enter the printer model (HP 82550) in the search bar.
  • Check the available downloads for your operating system (Windows on ARM).
  • If HP doesn’t have an ARM-specific driver, you may be able to use the universal Windows driver or HP Smart app, which works with a wide range of HP printers and devices.

For Linux on ARM: If you're using a Linux-based ARM system (like a Raspberry Pi or a laptop with Ubuntu ARM), you may need to use HPLIP (HP Linux Imaging and Printing) drivers.

  • HPLIP supports many HP printers, including the HP 82550.
  • You can download HPLIP from here.
  • Follow the installation instructions specific to your ARM distribution (you may need to compile it from source on ARM-based Linux).

2. HP Smart App

If you are using Windows or macOS, you can also try using the HP Smart app, which is designed to manage HP printers and can often bypass the need for specific drivers. The HP Smart app might also have ARM support:

  • Windows: You can download the HP Smart app from the Microsoft Store. It often has universal support for a range of HP printers.
  • Android/iOS: The HP Smart app is also available on Google Play and Apple App Store, which may offer additional features.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
