Hi @DiehlJ,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.
Thank you for reaching out. If the Admin password and reset option are locked on your HP OfficeJet Pro 6970, you can still restore the printer to factory defaults using the Semi-Full Reset method. This bypasses the admin lock and clears all settings.
Recommended Steps to Reset Without Admin Access
Option 1: Semi-Full Reset (Service Menu)
- Power off the printer.
- Press and hold the following buttons together:
- Back (←) + Cancel (X) + Power.
- While holding, plug the power cord back in.
- Release buttons when the printer powers on and shows the Reset Menu.
- Select Semi-Full Reset.
- This will restore factory defaults, remove the admin password, and clear network settings.
Option 2: Using Hidden Support Menu
- On the printer touchscreen:
- Tap Home → Back → Home → Back → Home quickly.
- This opens the Support Menu.
- Navigate to Reset Menu → Semi-Full Reset.
✅ Important Notes
- A Semi-Full Reset will:
- Remove admin credentials.
- Erase all custom settings (Wi-Fi, fax, etc.).
- Require reinstallation of the printer in HP Smart or Windows.

I hope this helps.
Take care and have an amazing day!

Hi @DiehlJ,
Thank you for clarifying! On the HP OfficeJet Pro 6970, the touchscreen does not have a physical Cancel button, and that’s normal. To cancel a job or reset the printer for Wi-Fi setup, here’s what you can do:
Cancel a Print Job
- When a job is printing, the touchscreen usually shows a Cancel icon (X) on the display.
- If you don’t see it, you can cancel from:
- HP App → Printer → Print Queue → Cancel.
- Windows → Control Panel → Devices and Printers → Right-click printer → See what’s printing → Cancel.
- macOS → System Preferences → Printers & Scanners → Open Print Queue → Cancel.
Take care and have an amazing day!
