I just purchased a new printer last week and changed the admin password. I kept a copy of this in my password manager software. I've tried to copy and paste it in but it won't accept it. I used a 20 digit/letter/special password.Could anyone advise of how to reset the password or if I just need to shorten the password?

@Celticjam,

Thanks for stopping by the HP Support Forums.  After reading your post I see that you need assistance regarding issues logging on to the EWS Page of the printer to change the password.  It will be a delight to assist you here.

Superb analysis and brilliant diagnosis of the issue before posting. Kudos to you on that score. 🙂

For better clarity and to assist you better I would require more information regarding this:

  • Did you try connecting the printer to the network?

For now, try these steps:

  • Perform a hard reset on the printer by from this link: https://hp.care/2KWQlGl  by following instructions from the section “Step 1: Reset the printer
  • Then restore network defaults on the printer from this user guide: https://hp.care/2hGof9x refer to page 69 for instructions on how to do it.

Then from this link: https://hp.care/2KV9dFO (HP Printers - Printer Not Found During Network Driver Setup (Windows) perform these steps:

  • Step 1: Restart the computer, printer, and router
  • Step 4: Run the HP Print and Scan Doctor
  • Now check if the issue gets fixed.

If it continues Then try to print the network configuration page from page 10 of the user guide.

Then perform these steps from the link mentioned above.

  • Step 3: Manually connect the printer to your network (wireless connections only)
  • Step 5: Temporarily disable firewall software on the computer
  • Now check if the issue gets fixed.

If it continues, then please try all the relevant steps from this link: https://hp.care/2KSp5c6 ( HP Printers - No Connection after Router or Wi-Fi Settings Change)

  • Step 1: Connect the printer with WPS
  • Step 2: Connect the printer with the HP Smart app
  • Step 3: Connect the printer with a temporary USB connection

This should convert the USB connection to a wireless connection and fix the issue for you.

Now check if the issue gets resolved.

  • If it persists, then for further assistance on how to convert a USB connection to a wireless one please follow directions from this link: https://hp.care/2KUYXNF (HP Printers - Changing from a USB to a Wireless Connection)

This should do the trick for you.

Perform all these steps patiently as it is critical to resolving the issue. Good luck to you. I will keep a watch for your response.  It is paramount to assist you as you are a valued HP customer.

Thanks JohnSaviour. That's all that it was. trying to input a 20 character password when it will only accept 16. Got back in now. You are indeed a saviour to save going through all the resets suggested in the other posts!
