Hi @DONEE,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

To help you correctly, could you please confirm which Administrator password you are referring to:

  • The printer’s Embedded Web Server (EWS) / admin page password (used when accessing the printer via browser)
  • The WiFi Direct password
  • Or a PIN/password set on the printer control panel

Once we know which one, we can guide you more precisely.

If it is the EWS / Administrator password (most common)

HP printers do not have a way to recover a forgotten admin password. The only option is to reset the printer to factory defaults, which will remove the password.

Basic reset steps

For most printers (including models without a touchscreen):

  1. Turn the printer ON
  2. Press and hold Cancel (X) + Wireless button together for about 5–10 seconds
  3. Wait until the printer restarts or the lights begin blinking

This will reset:

  • Network settings
  • Admin password
  • Web Services settings

You will need to reconnect the printer to WiFi afterwards.

If it is a WiFi Direct password

  • This can usually be found by printing an Information Page
  • Or reset by restoring network settings (same steps above)

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!

Hello.  And than k you for your responses to me.  I'm going to set aside the Administrative Password issue for now, as I wish to prioritize my previous issue with Chromebook printing.  I am unable to switch my Modem to 2.4GHz.  Modem is Hitron Model COD4582.  Provider says would have to get a different Modem and switching could cause issues with other devices.  They say they use 2.4GHz mostly for security cameras.  A different Router trying to send two different signals would cause more issues than the current one.  Anyway, would you guide me on resetting the Printer to it's original factory setting.  I would try that as the last resort.  As I advised previously, the printing will work good for a time, sometimes for several days, then suddenly give the "printer not available" message.  I think I gave you the methods I use to get it connected before.  It's just time consuming to get it connected again.  Thank you very much for your expertise and willing assistance.  Best wishes.  Don.

I have doubts that your provider is being truthful regarding the program abilities of your Hitron device but you are probably stuck dealing with them. They likely do not want to assist because it would take them time. I suggest you check the Hitron website and consult their guides and knowledge base regarding programming.
