@Louise38 I suggest you check with a new user account as there could be a corruption on the current user account profile,

If you wish to thank me for my efforts, you could click on "Accept as solution" on my post as the solution should help others too.

not sure what "check with new user account" means. What actions are you suggesting ? I have already done a total PC Reset.

@Louise38 If you've reinstalled the OS and yet its not working, I must ask, do you need the Windows S mode? as it may be a compatibility issue with the same, once removed, you cannot go back but the same should resolve this issue: click here for details.

Keep me posted.

Hi

thanks for sharing the info with us.

It seems like the driver is not uninstall properly.

Could you help to try the following:

  1. Uninstall the SW/driver from the Control Panel\Programs\Programs and Features. U could refer this support doc: https://support.hp.com/sg-en/document/c02259020
  2. On the magnifying glass at the bottom left of your PC, type in: Printmanagement.msc
    1. On the left hand side of the panel, you will see 2 folders "All Printers" and "All Drivers"
    2. Remove your device <HP  Printer Model Name> completely from these 2 folders.
  3. Next, reinstall the driver/app of you preference  from https://support.hp.com/sg-en/drivers/printers
  4. Ensure latest KB is installed. In the magnifying glass at the bottom left of your PC, type in "Check for updates".

Let us know how is the status. thanks.

Another info that we need is:

  1. In the magnifying glass at the bottom left of your PC, type in: view your update history.
    • Could you share us a copy of the update history?

Don't know if this helps but your point about the 4650 not being fully removed - that may be true as when I go to install using HP Smart. It has the image of a 4650 there. I removed HP Smart, rebooted and reinstalled and it was still there. So the printer is known to HP Smart somehow before I try to install it. Could the problem be with HP Smart ?

This is the first image after opening HP Smart and asking to add a printer. Then it fails to find the driver, then takes to you to manually install Printer driver and fails to find driver.

what role does HP Support Assistant play in driver updates ? I am on version 9.6.598.0 and was going to update but cannot find it on the Microsoft Store. HP web site says latest version is 9.6.605.0. But I do not want to remove it if it is needed and I can' t install in S mode. Should I remove it and take my chances ?
