HP ENVY 4520 All-in-One Printer
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Ever time there is a windows update, my printouts come out in black and white irregardless of the settings. The only solution is to uninstall from Device Manager and choose to have the driver removed. If I don't remove the driver, the problem persists when I reinstall the printer. After doing that, I can run the setup program to reinstall my printer/driver.

It use to be be when I downloaded the full package the installer would reinstall the driver or have an option. However, at some point in the last year or year and a half, it got changed. Also, when it gets to Step 3, I just get a blank window that pops up. It never loads anything into it. I have to close it, get the link, and then manually paste into a web browser. However, that is broken because I don't get to activation. It tells me there is better software available, but all it is HP Easy Setup which won't reinstall the driver either.

I've had this issue ever since I had a bad network driver screw up my system and I had to repair Windows. Ever since then, whenever there is a Windows update, it's like windows is using a generic driver or something gets screwed up with interfacing the driver. I've had to repeat this at least 4 times. All is fine till the next batch of Windows Updates and I have to go through this whole process again. I've also tried uninstalling ALL the software and reinstalling when no difference.

Next time it happens check this:

On your computer, go to control panel>devices and printers and right click on the icon for your printer and select printer properties from the drop down menu. Next click on the device settings tab and scroll down till you find a line "device type" and change to auto or mono to color.
