HP OfficeJet Pro 6978 All-in-One Printer
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I was correctly advised to do a semi reset after printer wouldn't let me change the modem settings for wi-fi after the modem was changed. I did that. And that was the solution for that. Following the re-set, the printer screen says it's "checking for updates. The circle keeps going around and around but the display and the circle never go away. There is an"X" on the bottom left of the screen, but tapping that does nothing. I turned the printer off and back on. Still getting the same thing. It did say something about web services, should I have declined that?

I'm running Windows 10, 64 bit, if that helps.

Thanks for the help.

I was able to get it reset. I had to shut off the printer, turn it back on and before it could go back to the looking for updates screen with the never ending circle tapped twice under the question mark and continue the set up without the web services or whatever it was.

Thank you,

If you can't get it to print a network or status report then there's something wrong

This video might be helpful for the 6978 using the WPS or push button method.

Were any of those two videos any good?

Did you use the videos?

I don't know if they really work or not.

Those didn't work in my situation. the video I first used to set back to factory new did work. I had to turn the printer off and restart it double tapping the left side of the display and it went back to setup. I then chose 'no' for the web service or something like that and I was able to finish the setup I had started by the double tap.
