I understand that setting the paper type is the proper way to do it, but when one sets chooses the factory defaults from the printing short cuts it always changes the paper to unspecified, which in the version 6.6.5 and before printed correctly. If this is an intentional change, then it should have been documented as a breaking change in the release notes as well which it is not documented.

This is a little ridiculous. General users shouldn't need to change paper sizes unless they know what they're doing, and I shouldn't have to change settings on 60 printers to make this work as it's been working for the last 15 years I have used the UPD.

I was having the "Manually feed unknown letter" issue on our network printer (HP Color LaserJet CP3525dn) with the latest driver, and in addition, it was printing one-sided when duplex was selected. Changing the settings as you had suggested fixed both problems. Thanks!

Please dont speak without knowing what you're saying 100% unless you work for HP's engineering team who designed these drivers and are able to tell people they are doing something wrong.
If the default settings from HP for every SPECIFIC driver and even the same Universal Print Driver (diff versions), all come with Paper Type Unspecified, then this is for a reason, dont tell users they need to go and change the default paper type settings for their printer as if that was the default instruction for everyone.
This is a screenshot of the CORRECT print driver that comes from HP directly, and the DEFAULT settings they set, and this works perfectly fine, and no need to change paper type to specific Plain.
So the fact that version 6.7.0.x of the universal driver causes this error (which I experienced as well), means the driver has some bug/glitch in the code, nothing to do with users and workarounds, you're wrong, period.

Same problem here on a brand new Windows Server 2016 Print Server which has UPD 6.7.0.23989 installed. Target printer (and the only one I've tried so far) is a HP LaserJet P4014. I was just about to go live with this new server as our new print server but now I am wondering if I should install an earlier version of the driver before doing so. I've got about 110 printers using the UPD and about 25 different models.

Just wondering if anyone knows if HP plans on actually FIXING this "manually feed unknown letter" bug in UPD v6.7.0.23989? I just checked, and this version, dated 3/11/19, is still the only driver version listed. It would be nice to actually have a driver that works by default that I could push instead of having to tell hundreds and hundreds of users to change the paper type in the driver settings. Thanks.

I am working on rolling back to the previous version which doesn't appear to have the same issue. The suggested workaround (setting the paper type) does fix the issue, but I am in the same boat where communicating that to hundreds of users, and them actually following instructions, is not feasible. The worst part is that the print job leaves the server queue and then gets stuck at the printer, so there is no indication to other users that the printer is out-of-commission and other print jobs are stuck until somebody walks up to the printer to press buttons to get the job going through.

It's a joke that this has gone on so long without a fix. Good luck rolling it back. I couldn't get ours done. I just had people uninstall and reinstall printers to fix because just changing the settings didn't work on some machines. Only uninstalling and reinstalling fixed those. It was a mess. Luckily towards the end of school. Has anyone from HP even see this? Do you people helping HP report these?
