Hi all,
I have an HP Printer. HP Officejet Pro 9130e to be precise.
I used to have the same one, but the airprint never worked. Now something broke and I got a replacement printer, which is the same printer.
The problem is now that also here, the AirPrint doesn't work.
I tried all the possible online troubleshooting, but nothing seems to work.
a couple of things:
Yes the wifi is stable and secure
The wifi is both 2,4 and 5ghz. Tried to have either or, but doesn't make a difference
Yes the printer has the latest firmware as well as my macbook/iphone (both up do date, no beta software)
The printer only works with a cable to a Windows laptop, not with my macbook.
I tried everything and it's driving me crazy. Does anyone have an idea of what I can do?
Would be super grateful.
Thank you!

Hi @weggaa,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
I'd be happy to help you!
It sounds frustrating to encounter the same AirPrint issue even after replacing the printer. Since you've already tried multiple troubleshooting steps, let's explore some additional steps that might help resolve the issue with your HP OfficeJet Pro 9130e:
1. Ensure Printer is Properly Connected to the Network
- Verify that the printer is connected to the correct Wi-Fi network, especially since you mentioned having both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz networks.
- Ensure that the printer is connected to the same network as your MacBook and iPhone. If you have a guest network or multiple SSIDs, make sure the devices are all on the same one.
2. Reset the Network Settings on the Printer
- Sometimes resetting the network settings on the printer and setting it up again can resolve connection issues.
- On the printer, go to Settings > Network Setup > Restore Network Settings.
- Reconnect the printer to your Wi-Fi network.
3. Check for Bonjour Service
- AirPrint relies on the Bonjour service (mDNS) to advertise itself on the network. If this service is blocked or not functioning correctly, AirPrint won’t work.
- Ensure that Bonjour is enabled on your router. This can often be found under the advanced settings or in the multicast/broadcast settings of your router.
- If you have a firewall or any security software on your network, ensure that it isn’t blocking the Bonjour service.
4. Use the HP Smart App
- Install the HP Smart app on your iPhone or MacBook and use it to find and add the printer. The app might be able to detect and configure the printer for AirPrint even if manual methods don’t work.
5. Manually Add the Printer
- On your MacBook:
- Go to System Preferences > Printers & Scanners.
- Click the “+” button to add a new printer.
- Wait for your printer to appear in the list. If it doesn’t appear, you can try adding it via IP:
- Select IP at the top.
- Enter your printer’s IP address (you can find this on the printer’s network information page).
- Ensure the Protocol is set to AirPrint.
- Click Add.
Please find the remaining steps in the next post.
Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance

Hi @weggaa,
Please find the remaining steps below.
6. Check for Router-Specific Issues
- Some routers have settings or features that can interfere with AirPrint. These include:
- AP Isolation: This feature prevents devices on the same network from communicating with each other. Make sure this is turned off.
- Dual-Band Steering: Some routers automatically switch devices between 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz. If possible, try to disable this feature temporarily and see if it helps.
7. Test AirPrint on a Different Network
- If possible, try connecting your printer and MacBook/iPhone to a different Wi-Fi network (like a mobile hotspot) to see if AirPrint works there. This can help determine if the issue is related to your current network setup.
8. Reboot All Devices
- Power off and then restart your router, printer, MacBook, and iPhone to reset the network connections. Sometimes, a simple reboot can resolve lingering connectivity issues.
You may also refer to this document for further assistance.
If none of these steps resolve the issue, there may be a deeper compatibility or configuration issue. Contact HP support for further assistance, especially since this issue has persisted across two different units of the same model.
