So i bought my 2nd HP Printer last Jan 2024 as the previous one (MFP M227) was like 4 yrs old already and started to show signs that it needs retirement. So i got a MFP 283fdw Laser Jet Pro printer. From the get go that i had this printer, HP gave me headache and i was thinking if it was a mistake getting my 2nd HP printer. First the extra warranty had issues as HP doesnt want to recognize the invoice that i sent with the model number of the printer without its serial number printed on it. These guys were insisting that the invoice needs to have a the serial number of the printer in the invoice problem was the printer was delivered to me given its size and stock availability few days after i bought it hence how can the store give me an invoice when i bought it when i dont have the unit, crazy requirement. Anyways, that has been sorted after a number of calls and emails between the HP and Courts. Now next one is this HP Smart software that seems to be the only printer management software for this printer model for MACs. My problems are:
1. Its slow both printing and scanning
2. I often scan documents, this thing for the love of all that is holy always wanted to have a printer restarted, else the scan function doesnt work after the preview scan. It just hangs there.
3. Its scan output files when you go beyond 300dpi are huge! your talking about if you scan a credit card size ID back-to-back colored, the output file will be around 10MB+.
Printer Firmware: 2023-12-06
HP Smart Version: 17.15.1
OS: MacOS Sonoma 14.5
HP Folks, i used to use a different HP Scan software before this HP Smart software of yours, i think it was HP Easy Scan and it was pretty good. Are there alternatives to this software?
