Hi @PappyGail

Welcome to the HP Support Community! Thanks for posting your query!

We're here to help you get back up and running.

Thanks for sharing the situation. Since the printer was working fine before your macOS upgrade and now shows as offline, it’s important we isolate whether this is a driver, connection, or configuration issue.

Before jumping into solutions, let me gather a few details so we can pinpoint the cause:

  • Which printer model are you using?
  • How is the printer connected to your MacBook—USB, Wi‑Fi, or Ethernet?
  • When you say “offline,” does this appear in the macOS printer queue, or on the printer’s own display panel?
  • Have you tried printing from multiple applications (like Safari, Word, or Preview), and does the issue persist across all of them?
  • Did you reinstall or update the printer software/driver after upgrading to macOS Tahoe 26.2?
  • Is the printer accessible from other devices on your network, or is it only the MacBook that shows it offline?

Once we have clarity on these points, we’ll be able to narrow down whether it’s a driver compatibility issue, a connection problem, or something in the printer’s setup itself.

Would you share these details so we can move forward with the right fix?

We're looking forward to helping you get back up and running!

Regards,

Hawks_Eye

Printer is fine from ipad or phone, NOT from MacBook.

Hi @PappyGail,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query.

When a MacBook experiences printer offline issues after an OS upgrade, it might be due to compatibility or configuration changes. I would request you to follow the below steps to get it resolved.

Check Printer Status

  • Ensure that the printer is powered on and connected to the same network as your MacBook.

Update Printer Drivers:

  • Check the HP website for updated drivers or software that are compatible with the new macOS version. Install any available updates for your printer.

Reset Printing System:

  • This can resolve various printer issues:
  • Go to "System Preferences" on your Mac.
  • Click on "Printers & Scanners."
  • Right-click (or Control-click) in the list of devices on the left and select "Reset printing system."
  • Confirm the reset, and then re-add your printer.

Verify Network Connection

  • Make sure that both your MacBook and the printer are on the same Wi-Fi network. Sometimes, a new macOS version may affect the network configuration, requiring a fresh connection setup.

Re-add the Printer:

  • In "Printers & Scanners," click the "+" button to add a printer.
  • Select your printer from the list, or manually add it using the IP address if it's not visible.

AirPrint:

  • If your printer supports AirPrint, ensure that it’s enabled. Sometimes, using AirPrint can bypass driver compatibility issues.

Take care and have an amazing day!
