I am experiencing an issue with my HP device where the Bluetooth icon has suddenly disappeared from my system tray, and I am unable to connect my Bluetooth headphones. When I try to connect them, I receive a message indicating that my Bluetooth driver needs updating, but I am unsure how to proceed with this update.
Could you please provide guidance on how to resolve this issue? Any help with updating the Bluetooth driver or troubleshooting steps would be greatly appreciated.

Hi @MichelleAgoe,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
To resolve the Bluetooth issue on your HP Notebook 15s, where the icon has disappeared and you're unable to connect your Bluetooth headphones, follow these troubleshooting steps.
Check Bluetooth Status
- Ensure Bluetooth is enabled: Go to Settings > Devices > Bluetooth & other devices. Ensure that the Bluetooth toggle is switched on.
- Restart your system: Sometimes, restarting your system can restore missing icons or settings.
Update Bluetooth Driver
Since you're getting a message about updating the Bluetooth driver, follow these steps to update it:
a) Update via Device Manager
- Press Windows + X and select Device Manager.
- Scroll down to find Bluetooth and expand it.
- Right-click on your Bluetooth adapter (e.g., Intel Wireless Bluetooth, Realtek Bluetooth Adapter) and select Update driver.
- Choose Search automatically for updated driver software. Windows will search online for the latest driver and install it.
b) Check for Optional Updates
- Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update.
- Click on View optional updates (if available).
- Look for Driver updates, especially for Bluetooth, and install any updates.
c) Download Driver from HP's Website
- Visit the HP Support website.
- Enter your HP Notebook 15s model number to find drivers.
- Download the latest Bluetooth driver and install it manually.
Restart Bluetooth Services
- Press Windows + R, type services.msc, and press Enter.
- Scroll down and locate Bluetooth Support Service.
- Right-click on it and select Restart.
- Double-click the service and ensure its Startup type is set to Automatic.

Run Bluetooth Troubleshooter
- Go to Settings > Update & Security > Troubleshoot.
- Click on Additional troubleshooters.
- Scroll down, find Bluetooth, and click Run the troubleshooter. Follow any on-screen instructions.
Check Airplane Mode
- Ensure that Airplane Mode is off by going to Settings > Network & Internet > Airplane mode.
After following these steps, the Bluetooth driver should be updated, and the Bluetooth icon should reappear in the system tray. You should be able to reconnect your Bluetooth headphones.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
