HP Officejet Pro 8610
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I've tried many times to delete the printer, uninstall the drivers, reboot, reset printer to factory, etc. with no success.  I've even gone into the registry and removed the printer reference whereever I could.

Please note I know how to link the printer wirelessly and successfully did so to the router with IP 192.168.1.108.   The problem is that the installation software scans for a printer on the network and discovers the 8610, but displays it with IP address 192.168.1.1 which, of course, fails to install correctly.

How do I get the dialog to see the printer with the CORRECT IP ADDRESS?

Well, I gave up trying to connect wirelessly and connected the printer with an ethernet cable.    Re-installed software which went much more smoothly, but still showed printer with router IP when trying to add it.   I chose "other device" and entered the ethernet IP manually.

Everything works now, including scanning.

I think the new router (from satellite internet) is blocking some port that's needed to complete the driver installation successfully.   I had to add a switch in order to have an extra ethernet port to connect the printer.

This was NOT a fun experience.   I got lots of practice of removing, downloading, installing, configuring the HP printer over and over though, so perhaps it's not all a lost cause.

Hi,

Try restarting the router by uunplugging its power, plug it back and allow it approx. 3 minutes to start.

Next reboot both the PC and the pritner and try connecting the printer again.

If the same persists, what happens when you type the printer's IP into a browser? can you see the printer page or any error?

Next right click the start menu and select Command Prompt.

Within the CMD dialog type ping 192.168.1.108 (or the current printer IP and press Enter.

Can you get a Reply?

If so from which address? (which is written after 'Reply from ')

Ping works fine and returns from 192.168.1.108 which is the WiFi address on the printer.   I have also used "Update IP Address" to be sure the driver has that IP.

The printer accepts print requests just fine.  Print and Scan Doctor, however, discovers the printer but shows its IP address as 192.168.1.1, the gateway address.

I can scan documents by accessing the printer via IP address in a browser, but if I try to scan from the  Driver application "Scan a Document or Photo", I get a "communication error".

I think the real issue is that the wrong IP address is being associated with the printer in the driver software.

I'm about out of ideas on how to clear this up.

One more factor:   I can access the printer via IP address in the browser (192.168.1.108) and the scan function there works fine.   If I access the printer via the HP Officejet Pro 8610 desktop icon (driver application), I'm told there is a communication error.  If I invoke Print and Scan Doctor, the device shows as 192.168.1.1

Hi,

Have you tried rebooting the devices as suggested?

Try opening the HP Officejet Pro 8610 desktop icon and then open the Utilities tab and click on pdate IP Address.

Type the printer address into the box and press Search / Test and then press Save.

May you now see any difference?

Yes, have tried all you described.   The printer is assigned IP 192.168.1.108 (as shown in the display), ping from PC to 108 works fine, printing works fine, any attempt to "add a wifi printer" or to run HP Utilities first has to identify a device and this printer is discovered, but is shown as 192.168.1.1.   I have already used "Update IP address" to be sure the correct IP is identified to the driver.

I don't know if the problem is in the driver or buried deep in Windows 10, but this makes the situation impossible.   We cannot scan because the link between the PC and the HP 8610 is faulty.

PS. Connected printer with cable and at least software loaded this way.   Also updated firmware.   Problem persists.
