I finished setting up my printer and before printing the test page, it automatically downloaded firmware and started installing it.  Now it is caught in a loop on the printer screen. I see a progress bar with the hp logo and dots spinning indicating installing. when it reaches the end of the progress bar, an energystar logo shows for a few seconds, then it goes back to the hp progress bar screen.  This loop has happened at least a dozen time by now.   I'm worried about shutting it because interrupting a firmware update can kill a machine.  What now. I just bought this printer as new from Costco and was setting it up.

Here is a step-by-step guide to troubleshoot and resolve the firmware update loop issue on your HP printer:

Step 1: Power Cycle the Printer

  1. Turn off the printer by pressing the power button.
  2. Unplug the power cord from the back of the printer and wait for 60 seconds.
  3. Plug the power cord back into the printer and turn it back on.

Step 2: Reset the Printer

  1. If power cycling the printer doesn’t resolve the issue, locate the Reset button on the printer.
  2. Use a straight pin to press and hold the Reset button until the printer turns off.
  3. Restart the printer.

Step 3: Update the Firmware Manually

  1. Ensure your printer is connected to the Internet.
  2. Go to the HP support website and download the latest firmware for your printer model.
